Papagayo beach Club
Papagayo beach Club (PPGYO), Curacao.
Project delivered December 2012.
The assignment for the project: we need a creative injection for our beach club as it’s not colorful, sparkling, creative and profitable. OK, very clear as the beach club opened up only a few years before.
We started with the concept; a colorful, crazy design, cozy, but mind blowing. We wanted to create an additional variety in seats and feelings, shade places within a European contemporary design. To start with the floor, we covered the wooden walking path with an outdoor magenta colored carpet with on the entrance side the clients company logo. Next to the path we added outdoor seats so the guests would experience the Caribbean “dining with your feet in sand” atmosphere. The square tables in white, the chairs are a colorful mixed celebration between Driade’s Toys and Vitra’s Panton chairs around Gloster tables. The other part on the beach we created 2 different feelings in seats. High tables, of course all facing the sea from One to Sit surrounded by magenta bar stools from our French friends from Fermob. The round dining tables are from Gandia Blasco encircled by multiple colored Panton chairs.
Facing the sea, right from the bar we covered the floor with a multiple colored outdoor carpet. On this color bomb we situated even more colors, a party with outdoor versions of world famous chairs, the Lounge Chair & Ottoman from Eames has his red & blue outdoor copy, designed by MAL1956, the Louis series from Six-inch in yellow and green. We finished the outdoor celebration with the site tables from Kartell, Patricia Urquioloa & Mr. Starck, and his little golden gnome as a funny & funky wink to the entire concept. The serious red chair is a Vitra & Eames original from the plywood series: LCW.
Closer to the building in the same area we also placed a luxury outdoor lounge feeling, again a mix of various seats. The white lounge sofa is from Vondom, the red & white Mies van der Rohe Barcelona (Barceloneta) copy is from Serralunga, just like the white bamboo lounge seat called Canisse. We decorated the wall with magenta planters from Vondom filled with funky green….
On the other side of the bar we implemented the same idea, executed with other famous design chairs like Driade’s & Ron Arad’s “Clover & MT3 rocking armchair”, Piet Hein Eek’s “‘scrap wood rocking chair” and Marcel Wanders’ “Stone”, all combined with the white Vondom Lounge set “Vela”.
To make sure the guests can n-joy their drinks and food during the hot daytime combined with the creation of sunshade we subscribed 15 different sized and shaped shade sails in 2 natural-look colors. They where installed partly to cover the beach but also to cover the lounge area’s.
Interior design is not only about beauty, products, drawings, creativity and the great looking end result of the project. It’s also about the added value a designer can give to achieve a commercial success for it’s clients.
